Bio
Ever since I can remember, I have always been interested in many things. I am a generalist by nature, but I tend to become so dedicated to learning about the things I like that I become a specialist in the process. I enjoy writing for many reasons, one being that I write to integrate different areas of knowledge or experience I have. Such has been the case with several academic works I have written, some of which have achieved international recognition, and most recently with my book Grow Into Investing Wisdom.
The book draws on a few of my areas of interest and brings about new theory. Most of the book is based on my academic background, which includes degrees in engineering, business, counseling psychology and clinical psychology. I have also had the opportunity of building my academic background by attending excellent educational institutions in several countries such as Mexico, USA, England, France and Switzerland.
My professional development stems out of my early days as a recent college graduate who became an entrepreneur. I operated several businesses and raised investments to fund my ideas. I initially dabbled with the restaurant, hospitality and real estate industries in Mexico and the US. My operating businesses spanned a polarized spectrum between incredibly successful and some becoming terrible investments. Nevertheless, it was an intense learning experience that among other things, it also taught me that operating a business was not so appealing to me.
After my entrepreneurial run, I decided to go back to school. While I was interested in business, I decided to focus on the human aspect involved. I got a Masters degree in counseling psychology with a focus on systems theory and later on a Doctorate in clinical psychology where my area of research was family businesses. I have held a practice helping individuals and families ever since. I have also continuously been an investor, which brings my experience to over 20 years of investing.
I am member of several professional organizations that are mostly in the space of psychology, business and investments. I currently participate with The American Psychological Association, The San Francisco Jung Institute, Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology, Family Firm Institute, Institute for Private Investors and Campden Wealth. I frequently attend conferences and events from all of these organizations. I have also been a speaker and a teacher with these organizations as well as others.
I am physically very active. I had a long run of about 25 years in martial arts, which included being a Kung Fu and Tai Chi instructor for a while. Lately, I have become more focused on endurance sports, I run, cycle and swim. I love being out in nature and the area where I currently live allows for me to do trail running and mountain biking, but some of the things I enjoy the most is hiking and kayaking with my kids.
